Lauren and Danny's Steampunk Wedding

Lauren Murphy and Danny Wong decided to tie the knot at West Manor Estate in Forest, Virginia, on September 6th, 2014. When they first came in for their consultation they were so excited to be getting married but were unsure of their vision for their wedding day. After talking through a lot of things, they brought up the idea of a steampunk wedding, but were nervous that the idea was too "out there." We set out to design something that would be unique, beautiful and true to their style.

To this day, Danny & Lauren's Steampunk wedding remains one of our personal favorites. Thank you to Jason Jarvis Photography for capturing these special moments.

The cake took a lot of turns... at first, Lauren wanted a traditional wedding cake with flowers to match the rest of the flowers in the room. We could tell she wanted it to have a steampunk look, but was afraid it would be too much. She finally gave us the go ahead to design it the way we wanted to and knew she would love. We designed her cake to be beautiful and also reflect the rest of the wedding.  Most of the elements on the cake were hand cut and made by us.  There were no steampunk molds back then. We just kinda designed it as we went.  She never saw the final design until the day of the wedding. Sure enough, both she and Danny loved the cake.

They wanted unique boutonnieres. We did a lot of searching to find the perfect components for them and then were able to design them in true steampunk fashion.

One of our favorite elements were the escort cards. We used old anniversary clocks for the table numbers. The clock for each table was set to the time of that table number. (i.e. Table 1 was set to 1 o'clock, Table 2 was set to 2 o'clock, etc.) The corresponding escort cards had clocks on one side indicating their table number and we did the guest names on the reverse in calligraphy done by our own, Linda Hall. The cards were hung by vintage keys on our custom shutters.

This wedding was so much fun... from the steampunk touches to the hand fasting ceremony.   We also love staying in touch with our brides and grooms and watching our Love Is In The Air Family grow!  They are now the proud parents of their precious daughter, Lily Rose!  Thank you Lauren and Danny for allowing us to provide your cake, flowers, and decor on your big day. It was truly an honor, and for sure one of the weddings we will never forget!
